Adventure Holidays
Before visiting Australia, the view of the country to many people is
of a harsh, uninhabitable outback. With this desert perception one would
have difficulties thinking of the types of activities to engage in. However
you could think of Australia as the land of opportunity for those who
need their daily fix of adrenalin and excitement.
Adventure Activities
Abseiling
Let us start with the sport of Abseiling which is both exciting and safe
to do. Various national parks around Australia offer Abseiling and cater
to the beginners with a number of courses.
Bungy Jumping
Taking it up a notch on the adrenalin scale we have bungy jumping. It
is still conducted safely by licensed operators, but guaranteed to give
you a thrill of screaming proportions. There aren't as many bungy jumping
operators as there are abseilers, but you can generally find them in most
capital cities and tourist information centres. Cairns for example has
bungee operators.
Skydiving
If throwing yourself off bridges is your thing, then perhaps skydiving
is too. Most people engage in tandem dives because you can just make a
booking then turn up and have a professional strapped to your back who
will do everything for you, including the all important pulling of the
cord. Freefalling skydiving however the other
hand requires you to undertake a course which results in you being able
to jump out of the plane by yourself. Whichever way you choose, skydiving
is at the top end of the adrenalin scale. There are a number of skydiving
operators to choose from, click here for more information.
Rock Climbing
As thrilling as falling out of a plane can be, you may want to work up
a sweet and try something more physical like rock climbing. Just like
Abseiling, rock climbing is common in National Parks, but it's important
to partake in some training before taking to the cliffs. There are a number
of courses you can do and there are many indoor rock climbing establishments
in Australia that you can try your hand at or brush up on your skills
before tackling natures walls.
White Water Rafting
Not all of us want to experience a rush that involves heights and if you’re
okay with water, white water rafting or jet boating could be a good challenge
for you. For both of these activities you must be able to swim as you
are taken down rapids in a boat, for white water rafting you will be armed
with a paddle.
Though operators ensure that the activities you undertake are as safe
as possible, it should be understood that you are participating at your
own risk. The last place you want to spend your holiday is in a hospital
so its important to research the activity you wish to participate in to
ensure you are capable of taking part. If you cannot swim, its probably
best you stay away from white water rafting and the same goes for bungee
jumping if you have a chronic fear of heights.
