Queensland Island Getaway

The islands of Australia are famous around the world, particularly those off the coast of Queensland such as Hamilton, Great Keppel and Dunk Island. In addition to the major ones there are several less known and relatively untouched islands to be found in the region. These islands are ideal for those who want to get away from it all and enjoy nature and peace without the mobile phones and screaming fellow tourists. There islands are recommended for those who are willing to trade in the comforts of large tourist resorts for the peace, tranquillity and exclusiveness of and Australian hideaway.

Masthead Island
Masthead Island is one such uninhabited island. There are no camping facilities meaning you must be completely self sufficient. The island is a "silent" island with radios or generators banned. If you're one for complete isolation this is the place with you, only permitting between 30 and 60 campers at any one time. The island is accessible only by private charter boat.

Keppel islands
The Keppel islands are till relatively isolated but more accessible to modern life then Masthead Islands. These islands surround Great Keppel Island and most of them are national parks with strict camping limits. One of the islands, Humpy Island has limited camping facilities that include toilets and washing water and is close to good diving and snorkelling.

These islands are accessible via water taxi and fair prices.
Hinchinbrook Island too has camping facilities, but you should know it has a holiday resort if this is the type of thing you simply must avoid. Hinchinbrook is a large island mostly set aside as National Park and one of the more accessible and civilized Islands. On this island camping is permitted everywhere other then near the resort. However, campers are encouraged to use recommended sites that do not disturb wildlife and minimize environmental impact to the ecosystem of the Island.

These small islands are just a handful of the many islands around Queensland and the whole of Australia. These are the perfect getaway for those people who want to taste some adventure, get away from civilisation and experience at true piece of untouched Australia.
