Travel > Travel Guides > Tasmania > Sea Kayaking Sea Kayaking in Freycinet National Park- by Bettina James Freycinet National Park has many activities you can participate in. The kayaking is a three hour journey of the Freycinet’s coastline and some of the animals you should expect to see are dolphins, sea eagles, and the bird life. Although not strenuous, you have to be relatively fit to be able to paddle the 2 hours. You might get lucky and be paired with one of the guides though; alternatively you can paddle in your own kayak. Highlights of the tour include seeing the sheltered coves and beaches which are inaccessible by other means – namely Honeymoon Bay and the old Quarry. The clear blue waters and pink granite mountains are inspiring, as the guides have an intimate knowledge of the history and tales of the landscape – French explorers and shipwrecked whalers. The water is so clear that you can peer straight down into the marine life below – but don’t forget our water ways are supposed to look like this. Freycinet Adventures – Freycinet Paddle – provides these tours twice a day, one in the morning and one at dusk. They provide all the sea kayaking equipment, a waterproof bag for personal items and polar fleeces and spray jackets if required. You’ll need to bring casual clothes (t-shirt, shorts), footwear (sandals/trainers), sunscreen, sun hat, drinking water and your camera.
Soak in the tranquillity!
