About TravelAus

TravelAus.com.au is an independent editorial site about Australian cities, seasons and regional country. The domain appeared on the public web in 1996 as a guide to travel and tourism information organised by place. This rebuild keeps that job and throws away the later clutter.

We are not a tourism board, a park agency, an airline or a booking platform. Place names and trademarks belong to their owners. Heritage operator listings from earlier versions of the site are unverified. We do not invent prices, rankings, events or quotes.

What we publish

Long-form planning essays. Destination hubs for Sydney, Brisbane and the Cairns highlands. Season notes. Stay-comparison logic. Guides that restore clean URLs for travel-relevant WordPress slugs from 2019 onwards.

What we do not publish

Archive scrapes. Guest posts for hire. Medical, gambling or consumer-electronics copy that wandered onto the old CMS. Anything that would require us to pretend we inspected a hotel yesterday.

Contact

Editorial mail goes through the contact page. Corrections are welcome when they come with a source. Pitches go to Write for us and must meet the same evidence bar as the rest of the journal.

A 1996 instinct, kept

The archived homepage from October 1996 described Travelling Australia as a guide to attractions and travel facilities that you could search by state, region and town. That is still a good sentence. What was not good, later, was the CMS filling with posts that had nothing to do with travel. This rebuild is a restoration of purpose, not a museum of every URL.

We keep the travel slugs. We 301 the rest. We write new sentences.

Independence

Independence here means: no tourism-board script, no operator ranking, no invented award. It also means we will mention public institutions by their real names when the fact is public, and we will not pretend those names are endorsements.

Readers who need a ticket should leave. Readers who need a way to think should stay. Both are honourable. Only one is our job.

Corrections and memory

If you have a primary source that contradicts a climate, access or geography sentence, send it. We will change the sentence. We will not restore an old affiliate paragraph because it is nostalgic.

Who this is for

Independent travellers who will read a climate page. Families who want an apartment kitchen rather than a slogan. People who like sport in cities. People who want a tableland night. People who remember that Australia is far even when the map is small.

It is not for anyone who needs us to hold a credit card. It is not for brands buying a paragraph. It is not for the old noticeboard behaviour that ate the CMS.

How the rebuild was done

Heritage paths were mapped from public CDX records. Travel slugs were rewritten from geography and public facts. Spam slugs were pointed off the map in a single 301. The visual system is harbour blue, jacaranda, terracotta and linen — a palette of this coast, not a clone of another lighthouse journal’s red and white.

Every page carries a copyright and trademark disclaimer because this is a fleet rebuild of a heritage consumer domain. Trademarks belong to their owners. We are not those owners. Historical listings are unverified. That paragraph is not decoration. It is the legal and editorial posture of the site.

If you are a rights holder with a genuine complaint, use the contact form. We will read it. If you are a vendor buying paragraphs, the answer is no.

What success looks like for this journal

A reader chooses a climate on purpose. A dated URL resolves. A spam path dies. A stay is compared by kitchen and map. A tableland night happens. Nobody is told a lie about a price we invented. That is the whole scoreboard.

The domain is older than many of the airlines that now fly into it. Age is not virtue. Continuity of purpose is. 1996 was place-first. 2019 still had real city and region posts. The years after filled with junk. 2026 is the restoration.

If you quote us, quote a sentence that still has a public fact behind it. If you need a room, leave. Both behaviours keep the masthead clean.

Scale, sources and stopping

This page is part of a small information architecture: home, destinations, when-to-go, stays, guides, FAQ, about, contact, write-for-us. Each of those URLs is meant to be finishable. If you have read this far, you already have enough to choose a climate and a radius. The next honest action is to open one child page or to close the laptop.

Public meteorology, public land managers and ordinary maps remain the sources of record. We join them in sentences. We do not replace them. When a joined sentence is wrong, the contact form exists.

Independence, again: TravelAus.com.au is not a tourism board, park authority, airline or booking desk. Trademarks belong to their owners. Historical listings from earlier versions of this domain are unverified. There are no invented prices, rankings, events or quotes on this page.
