TravelAus publishes original notes about Australian places, seasons and the practical work of moving between them. We do not run a guest-post marketplace.
What we want
First-person or reported pieces that could sit beside the destination hubs: a tableland night, a river-city stay, a season that surprised you, a day-trip radius that was honest. Length should earn itself. Cite public sources for climate, parks and access. Write in Australian English.
What we will not run
Invented prices. Operator rankings. Unverifiable quotes. Health, crypto, vapes, or any other off-niche pitch. Rewrites of our own pages. Link insertions. Anything scraped from an archive.
How to pitch
Use the contact form, mark the topic Write for us, and include: the working title, the region, the question the piece answers in one sentence, and your previous published URL if you have one. Do not send the full draft until we ask. We cannot pay on a schedule we have not stated; if a piece is commissioned, terms will be in writing first.
By pitching you confirm the work is yours, that people in it have been treated fairly, and that you have not promised a business a mention in exchange for anything.
House style, briefly
Australian English. Short sentences when the fact is sharp; longer ones when the landform needs them. No exclamation. No “hidden gem”. No fake local slang. Direct answer near the top if the piece is a question. Cite BOM, parks and maps in words a reader can follow, not as a dump of links.
Conflicts
Tell us if a tourism office, hotel or relative is involved. Mention is not banned; secrecy is. We would rather kill a paragraph than launder a listing.
After publication
We may edit for house style. We will not invert your meaning. We may add a correction later if a public fact moves. You can ask for a factual update; you cannot ask for a new backlink package.
If this sounds strict, it is because the old domain already showed what happens when a travel journal becomes a noticeboard. We are not going back.
Example pitches that would be read
A reported walk along the Illawarra escarpment that explains wind and trains. A Tableland overnight that treats farms as the main character. A Perth winter essay that does not pretend the city is Sydney. A serviced-apartment field note that names the comparison logic, not the brand.
Example pitches that would not: “10 hidden gems”, a hotel review in exchange for a night, a medical or crypto post with a travel sentence glued on, a copy of our own Sydney hub with adjectives added.
Rights
If we publish you, we need the right to keep the piece on this domain and to correct facts. You keep the right to say you wrote it. Details belong in a written agreement if a piece is commissioned. Unsolicited full drafts may be deleted unread if they ignore this page.
Length and evidence
Aim for the same floor as our guides if you are covering a region: enough room for landform, calendar and a mistake to avoid. Short field notes can be shorter if they contain a fact you could defend to a ranger. Either way, no invented numbers.
If you need data, use public BOM climate summaries, park alerts, and maps. Do not launder a brochure.
Practicalities
We cannot promise a reply speed. We can promise that a pitch which names a region, a question and a source will be read ahead of a pitch which names a keyword list. Attachments are unnecessary at pitch stage.
If you are writing from inside a tourism office, say so. The piece may still run if it is not an advert. It will not run if it is a paragraph of brochure with a byline glued on.
Australian places are already over-described in marketing English. Contribute a fact, a season, a mistake, a map. That is the only invitation.
Scale, sources and stopping
This page is part of a small information architecture: home, destinations, when-to-go, stays, guides, FAQ, about, contact, write-for-us. Each of those URLs is meant to be finishable. If you have read this far, you already have enough to choose a climate and a radius. The next honest action is to open one child page or to close the laptop.
Public meteorology, public land managers and ordinary maps remain the sources of record. We join them in sentences. We do not replace them. When a joined sentence is wrong, the contact form exists.
Independence, again: TravelAus.com.au is not a tourism board, park authority, airline or booking desk. Trademarks belong to their owners. Historical listings from earlier versions of this domain are unverified. There are no invented prices, rankings, events or quotes on this page.
